I swear, some of these stories make me question the ability of some people to even remotely grasp how civilization works. This is one of those stories, because it turns out some people treat bakeries like confessionals. Like enough persistence can turn policy into pastries. 

One woman walks into a cookie shop and immediately begins her tragic quest for a chocolate chip croissant cookie, a flavor that, at least this week, lives only in memory. The employee gently explains that only red velvet croissant cookies are available. The woman reacts like someone offered kale instead of oxygen. Suddenly, it's not about dessert anymore; it's about justice.  

She calls her husband to confirm the crisis, as if his cookie preference might sway the laws of inventory. When that fails, she escalates. She asks for the manager by name, like she's summoning a patron saint of exceptions. Another manager emerges, calm but struggling on the inside, explaining they don't have the ingredients, or the permission, or the will to create a rogue batch of baked goods. The woman pushes on, bargaining like a hostage negotiator who demands control of the oven.

  • In retail, the customer is always right, but she’s also often ridiculous. Some people can’t handle a boundary that smells like vanilla. The worker’s politeness barely masks the quiet exhaustion of someone who’s seen grown adults crumble faster than cookies. In the end, the woman vows to return Monday when her chosen manager is back, surely unaware she’s become the plot of a workplace comedy the staff will retell for months. Nothing says modern entitlement like someone trying to custom-order a metaphor for patience.

  • Winterwynd Assuming she's not lying and {manager} did actually fold to her demand last time, \THIS\ is why management needs stand strong and not give in to ridiculous demands like this. They get a 'yes' just one time, even if you say just this once, and they will try to get special favors that are a major inconvenience and make a scene when told no every time afterwards for the rest of eternity. Do not feed the Karens!

  • Acaliah Wolfsong I used to work for a well known local diner that has a soup of the day menu. Usually their "famous" chili and a rotating other soup ( like pea soup, navy bean, chicken noodle, broccoli and cheese) occasionally when we wouldn't have the ingredients for the usual soup on the schedule one of the cooks would make her taco soup with what we had in the building. We ended up having several regulars get mad because we didn't have the taco soup that week because it was an "unauthorized"

I have seen managers do stuff like this. I once told a customer at an upscale seafood restaurant that we were out of the mahi for the evening. She pouted and asked to speak to Jackson.   • ZestfullyStank I always caution guest facing workers from over explaining. No, we are not able to do that. Anything more than that, it's the manager's job. Manger isn't there, give them a card or an email address or whatever. When people hear know and you start explaining all the details, guests aren't listening to logic. They are looking for ways around the reasons you are listing. I (as a bartender at the time) was at my wit's end with someone and that was my response "are you going to believe
